Waking up with a Swiss caffeine clock

Wouldn't it be helpful if we could already be infused with caffeine shortly before waking up, in order to be really awake once the alarm clock goes off? With the 'Swiss Caffeine Clock' from Swiss start-up Galventa this becomes reality

Around seven hours before someone plans to wake up, one capsule of the world’s first clinically proven wake-up supplement 'BSYNC ON' should be taken, preferably on an empty stomach. One capsule contains about 60mg of caffeine, comparable to a cup of coffee, as well as other vitamins, which are released after seven hours and trigger and promote the waking process. The supplement therefore helps you wake up naturally, making it much easier to get up, because you are not pulled out of a deep sleep, as with the alarm clock.

First clinically proven wake-up supplement

According to the creators of Galventa, the Swiss developers of the wake-up supplement, more than 70 percent of adults report that they have problems waking up. Certain consumer groups also struggle with the fact that their body clock is out of sync with their daily routine: for example, shift workers or people suffering from jet lag. This does not just cause fatigue during the day, but also problems waking up in particular. There are many products on the market to help people stay awake during the day. However, it’s not possible to consume products that help you wake up while you sleep. The effectiveness of the product was proven with a clinical study at the sleep laboratory at the University of Zurich.

Turning a night owl into an early bird

The idea of a food supplement that helps you wake up at the right time was triggered by the lifestyles of the two founders, Dr Dario Dornbierer, an expert in pharmaceutical sciences from ETH Zurich, and Sascha Fritsche, a successful CFO from the University of St. Gallen. The founders found it difficult to get up in the morning as they are typical night owls, who function better in the evening or even at night. Accordingly, their biological clock was often out of sync with everyday situations. All too often they found themselves in situations where they were asked to do a lot early in the morning. They therefore wanted to develop a nutritional supplement that could turn them from a night owl into an early bird – or vice versa.

The start-up from St Gallen has won several start-up prizes since Galventa was founded in 2018, including CHF 150,000 from VentureKick in January 2022 and the young entrepreneurs prize 'Startfeld Diamant 2021' from St Gallen. Thanks to a strategic investment from Turkish life sciences company GEN, the B • SYNC ON capsules will be manufactured in Ankara for the global market. According to the company, the product will be launching in the UK, Switzerland and Germany shortly.
